Work Packages

WP1: Requirements and Specifications

Lead Beneficiary: DRIVEU

Objectives

In this work package, high-level requirements will be defined for different platforms and applications in SC1 to SC6. This will include performance and safety requirements as well as functional and technical requirements for industrial, automotive, and energy-domain use-cases, multi-modal multi-physical sensing with quantum sensors and embedded AI for emergent systems. These requirements will be the basis for the specification of the artefacts and demonstrators. From there, the detailed requirements on the subcomponents and their interfaces will be elaborated. Finally, the criteria intended to verify the project results will be agreed and defined.

WP2: System Architecture, Modelling and Simulations

Lead Beneficiary: VIF
Duration: M3 – M22

Objectives

This work package is focused on system-level design, architecture definition, modelling, and simulation for emergent systems with embedded AI in automotive, industrial, and energy-domain applications. Concepts for hardware and software for sensing, control, and diagnostics in emergent systems will be developed. System design of the multi-modal, multi-physical quantum sensors and sensing systems will be performed. Digital twins for development phase as well as emergent systems operation will be created to efficiently support rapid prototyping in later development phases. Novel embedded AI concepts for efficient operation of emergent systems will be prepared to allow AI implementation on affordable industry used HW.

WP3: Semiconductor Devices, Sensors, and Electronics

Lead Beneficiary: IFAT
Duration: M3 – M27

Objectives

The objective of this work package is to design and develop novel sensors, electronic components, and additional components to harmonize the high-level software implementation in work packages 4. The developed sensors come up with complete documentation outlining the parameters, operating ranges, and complete characterization. Attention will be paid to proper design of interfaces to ease the integration in work packages 4 and deployment in real applications. The design of cutting-edge multidomain quantum sensor will be addressed integrated in a tiny package that will enhance the use in different applications. Additionally, quantum flux and current sensor will be demonstrated in the electric motor and joined motor control application. Moreover, this work package also covers the design of hardware components for embedded AI platforms. Development of sensors, utilization of existing sensors and their deployment in real applications will be realized.

WP4: Computing Algorithms, Embedded HW/SW, and SW Tools

Lead Beneficiary: BUT
Duration: M10 – M33

Objectives

The objective of this work package is to develop computational HW and algorithms, methods, and technologies to allow embedded AI based perception, control, decision, and diagnostics for emergent systems to be implemented in automotive, industrial, and energy-domain systems. The developed solution will enable novel intelligent functionalities, which will be later integrated in demonstrators of all SCs, and it will reflect use of newly developed components, e.g., quantum sensor from work package 3. Implementation of embedded AI systems requires significantly increased computing power while maintaining reasonable costs. That is why special attention will be paid also to concepts of computing resources sharing between individual subsystems and systems. Implementation of novel AI methods and tools will be also studied within this work pacakge.

WP5: System Integration and Commissioning

Lead Beneficiary: NXP-NL
Duration: M12 – M36

Objectives

The goal of this work package is to integrate and deploy the technologies and components developed in work package 3 and work package 4 into the different use-cases and demonstrators based on the specifications and system level design in work package 1 and work package 2. It will take care of the HW/SW integration, which is an essential activity in complete system development. Furthermore, this work package provides important information about possible changes and improvements to be implemented in the components and systems designed in work packages previously mentioned.

WP6: Validation and Tests

Lead Beneficiary: AVL
Duration: M25 – M36

Objectives

In this work package newly developed sensing technologies, HW platforms and systems as well as AI edge computation methods and algorithms are integrated and showcased on a large set of demonstrators. The demonstrators will vary between virtual realizations in simulation environments, lab demonstrators such as integrated e-Machine test benches and demonstrators in real industrial or even in unusual environments. This work package is focused on verification and validation of the designed solutions. The systems and sub-systems integrated in work package 5 will be evaluated. Their behaviour and properties will be studied with respect to outcomes of analysis of hardware, software, and digital twins and with respect to initial requirements and specifications.

WP7: Dissemination, Communication, Exploitation and Standardization

Lead Beneficiary: IOTAM
Duration: M1 – M36

Objectives

This WP will have a cross-cutting influence over the whole work plan by implementing comprehensive dissemination and communication strategies that will position the project, increasing the visibility of activities and the adoption of the results by a broad target audience. It will design the branding and marketing material that will support the initiative to convey the ambition, assets and activities in an attractive way. Furthermore, this work package will identify and engage with key stakeholders to deepen and amplify the influence at local, European and international ranges. It will establish and execute exploitation strategies in order to ensure the applicability and efficiency of the developed technologies and long-term impact to the relevant markets and society. Finally, it will execute wide-ranging standardisation activities to ensure that the developed systems and products comply with existing standards for easy market introduction.

WP8: Project Management and Projects Clustering
